Black Disability History

Bradley Lomax. Johnnie Lacy. Harriet Tubman. What do these people have in common? They are Black and disabled, yet history tried to hide their disabilities. For this year’s Black History Month, we want to share information about being Black and having a disability, and share some of these hidden histories with you.

Medium writer Mwatuangi published Black Disability History, a series of articles that shine a light on critical Black people throughout history and sharing their experience of having a disability. As Mwatuangi puts it, these narratives are “…  all necessary if people are to understand what Black Disabled and/or Neurodiverse folks experience.” Read his article and his series on Black Disability History on Medium here.
